    Methodology

    A simple danger-window measure

Turnover. This report uses events officially recorded as giveaways in NHL play-by-play. It does not attempt to infer uncredited lost possessions.

Punished. A giveaway counts as punished when the opposing team scores within 30 seconds of game clock in the same period. The boundary is inclusive.

Recovery proxy. Recovery percentage is the share of giveaways not followed by an opponent goal inside that window. It does not mean the player personally recovered the puck.

Repeated attribution. Every giveaway is evaluated independently. One goal can count against multiple giveaways if each occurred during the preceding 30 seconds.

League benchmark. The comparison rate pools all giveaways by players who appeared in at least 25 games. Players without a recorded giveaway do not affect the calculation.

Scope. All final 2025–26 regular-season games and all strength states are included. Preseason, playoffs, shootouts, and cross-period windows are excluded.

Context. Score, zone, teammates, opponents, line changes, and event-recording differences can affect results. This is a descriptive timing relationship, not causal attribution.
